“At present the term hypertext refers both in theory and in practice to very different phenomena. In the most general sense, hypertext is simply a specific form of presentation characterized by the distribution of content to nodes or modules electronically connected via links. The result is a network” (Jakobs 356).
This notion of a hypertext-like network is very interesting. Aka the World Wide Web, which has grown exponentially as the years have gone on; to the point now that everyone is connected to it. This network, through websites such as Facebook and Twitter, has extended to people. As if the networking boxes above are both web sites and people. “Back in the day” this was far from reality, the web was used more for information gain rather that interconnectedness, this switch occurred recently and honestly there is no looking back.
This brings to question, have we gone too far? Where do we go from here? And, lastly are we going to regret going down this path?
Dude. this entire class, I keep checking back to see what you've blogged about, and every time I click your link on our class homepage, it goes to your introductory post, so i just didn't think you were updating anything--and I was disappointed, because I like your writing in other classes and wanted to see what you had to say here. Just now I grew a brain in the giant space between my ears and checked the sidebar on your blog: there it is--all your posts. Grrrrr, I can't believe I've missed them all this time, all due to a tiny little technology problem where something acted differently that I expected it to, and I didn't second guess the technology. Now I have to get caught up....you *woulda* had comments from me...not that it's any great loss that you didn't, but dang--I can't believe I missed a whole class-worth of blogging because of one weird linking issue!
ReplyDeleteYeah it's weird, Doug had the same issue finding my posts. I can't seem to figure out how to change the order so its shows everyone my most recent posts. That'd would be funny if I came to class but never posted blogs haha
