ENGL 450: October 1st Post


1. Acyrologia: An incorrect use of words, especially the use of words that sound alike but are far in meaning from the speaker's intentions.

Ex. Texas has a lot of electrical votes.

2. Adynation: A declaration of impossibility, usually in terms of an exaggerated comparison. Sometimes, the expression of the impossibility of expression.

Ex. Pigs will fly before he will ever get to work on time.

3. Hysteron Proteron: Disorder of time. (What should be first, isn't.)

Ex. Go to school, and clean your room!

4. Paromologia: Admitting a weaker point in order to make a stronger one.

Ex. We may have lost the battle, but we will not lose the war!
